Shanghai Droi Technology has announced a wide-format Coolpad smartphone running DroiClaw 3, its operating system for AI-assisted tasks. In a company release distributed through GlobeNewswire, Droi said the device is expected to go on sale in China in October 2026 for RMB 999. The announcement sets out the company’s hardware and software plans; it does not provide independent testing of the phone’s performance or security.

The handset uses a 10:16 display. Droi says the wider format gives text, images, system controls and task results more screen space while retaining familiar smartphone interactions. That is the company’s design rationale, not a measured usability result. Its description of the device as a world first is also a company claim, referring to the combination of the wider format and agentic smartphone functions.

What DroiClaw 3 Is Intended To Do

Droi positions the software as an AI-native operating system rather than an assistant added on top of Android. According to the release, it can interpret a request and coordinate supported applications, tools, skills and services for tasks with several steps. The important qualification is supported: the announcement does not establish that the system can operate every application or complete any request a user gives it.

The company describes a hybrid edge-cloud architecture. Some work can use local models, while more demanding tasks can use cloud computing. Droi also says the system supports multiple model ecosystems and private-model deployment. Those options describe the proposed processing arrangement; they do not establish that every task stays on the device or that users have unrestricted control over where all information is processed.

Two connection mechanisms are named in the release. AppFunctions allows applications to expose selected functions for authorized AI use. MCP connects compatible tools and services. Droi says these connections can help the system use supported functions without requiring a person to move through several application screens manually.

The operating system also uses dynamic routing, according to the company. Simpler requests can take a lighter processing path, while work needing tools or agentic execution can enter a fuller workflow. The release does not supply timing comparisons or independent results showing how reliably those steps are completed. Permission controls and user handoffs remain part of the described system.

The Company’s Security Claims

Droi says its core services use Rust and that tools and scripts run in isolated containers. The intended purpose is to restrict those processes instead of granting unrestricted access to the device. These are descriptions of the company’s architecture, not proof that the implementation eliminates vulnerabilities or misuse.

The release also describes local handling of sensitive information before cloud processing. Phone numbers, identity numbers, bank card numbers and email addresses may be replaced with temporary identifiers, with original information restored locally. This is distinct from saying that all sensitive information is encrypted before it leaves the phone. The announcement separately says DroiClaw uses encrypted network connections.

Access to location, interface control and clipboard functions remains permission-based, the company says. Security-sensitive screens can hand control back to the user. Skill packages in trusted system directories can undergo SHA-256 integrity checks before execution, and access controls are intended to restrict unauthorized connections to AI services. The release provides no independent security audit supporting broader guarantees about these protections.

Price, Availability And Existing Platform Reach

Droi presents the RMB 999 price as part of a strategy to offer agentic AI beyond premium smartphones. October 2026 is the expected China sales window, not an already completed launch. The announcement’s affordability and democratization language describes the company’s commercial ambition; it does not demonstrate consumer demand or establish comparisons with every competing device.

Founded in 2008, Shanghai Droi Technology develops operating systems and mobile internet services. It says its FreemeOS platform has passed 200 million device installations and that its ecosystem includes more than 1,000 hardware and software partners. Those figures concern its existing platform and partner network, not sales of the new Coolpad handset or adoption of DroiClaw 3.

The announcement offers a specific planned price, market and software approach. It leaves practical questions about supported applications, dependable task completion and independently assessed security unanswered. Those limits matter when distinguishing an announced AI-phone strategy from a product whose everyday performance has been demonstrated.
